Technical Difficulties In Deepest Darkest Cambodia

I feel it’s endemic of me growing older that I’m increasingly less inclined to fiddle and tweak things and that am generally happier when things work out of the box especially while I’m off travelling.

Three things that are upsetting me at the moment:

  • Firstly the SPAM filter on Purplecloud seems a little unhappy at the moment so I’m getting close to 100 SPAMs per week, sorry if I have missed your email, please resend if you’ve not seen a timely response from me, the Purplecloud crew are normally an efficient bunch so hopefully this will be resolved shortly as I raised this issue with them this afternoon.
  • Secondly is the sudden appearance of a incompatibility of the blog entries produced off line when viewed with Firefox 2.  So far I have only had positive experiences with Word Press (the CMS used to drive this website) and Microsoft’s Live Writer (the offline blog authoring tool that Bry and I are using for authoring blog entries while we’re on the move) however for some reason entries with photos in are really upsetting the adventurer theme that I’ve had set up for the site.  Ugly cludge is to switch themes while I investigate the issues.  Apologies
  • Thirdly is Apple’s insistence to format the iPod 5th gen differently according to the host computer.  Come-on guys, there is no difference between a Windows formatted iPod and a MacOS formatted iPod, so why give me a headache because I use a lovely Mac desktop at home and my HP 2133 subnote on the move.  All I would like to do is add my latest iTunes purchases from my HP to my iPod but that means reformatting to FAT32 and loosing the incumbent 40GB of music.  GRRRR, there’s no reason for this as Mac’s can happily read FAT32 or are we being punished because of Apple’s nearsighted approach to DRM on iPods…

Geek sympathy appreciated.  Nothing is insurmountable but I hate having to think about these things while in Siem Riep on the doorstep of one of the world’s greatest wonders: Angkor Wat.
